My name is Grace, a 29 year-old Kenyan lady.I am looking for a loving, caring host family to work for starting September 2018 onwards
I am glad to share some information about myself please feel free to have a read through.
Although I currently live and work in Qatar on an open contract I actually come from Kiambu in Kiambu county to be precise .Compared to Nairobi (which is Kenya's largest city), Kiambu has an urban population of approximately 88,869 inhabitats and is the capital of the Kiambu County, which bounds the northern border of Nairobi.
I am a single mother of one wonderful, lovely, intelligent baby girl who is 6yrs, bless her. Joy is her beautiful name and she is named after my sweet mom. I am 5th born from a family of 8: My lovely parents, Eliud and Pauline, dad is a retired teacher but is currently a self employed landscaper and mum is a retired chef assistant.I have 2 big brothers Geoffrey 39yrs a self employed builder ,Sammy 37yrs a government chef with the Kenyan state house and 2 big sisters Mary 34yrs a Florist in Qatar ,Jane 31yrs a customer service assistant living in England(31) and our last born Esther 21yrs a waitress in Qatar.
In about a year or two I plan to pursue a course in childcare, but I am yet to decide where to take the studies. So, at the moment, I would like to take some time out of my current job as a hospital Security Officer and pursue my love for children as an au pair and to have time to calmly reflect on my future. To this end, I believe spending time with children for at least an year abroad would be great milestone in preparation for my course plans. My first language is, of course, Kiswahili, and I am also very fluent in English both oral and written. I started learning English in primary school, and it was also the language of instruction in the secondary school I attended and as such I can assure you that communication between us will always be easier. I am nevertheless aware that learning a language within a classroom context is by itself, incomplete. So, I feel that a cultural immersion would do me a lot of good in learning more and improving my English in the areas that might be wanting or better still learning a new language all together which I bet will be lots of fun! Hence my desire to have first hand experience of being in a different set up. I am particularly interested in experiencing family life outside Kenya since the opportunity offers a cultural context that is undoubtedly different from mine. For this and many more reasons, I would very much like to find a nice family to live with and work for as well as share some information about the Kenyan culture and way of living.
When it comes to child care experience, I have looked after children in both formal and informal contexts.
Formally I am currently working as a Security Officer in a major Qatari Hospital where I am mostly dealing with taking care of young children who are not allowed to access the hospital wards while their adult family visit patients.
In late 2014- early 2017 I worked as a student assistant for 2 years in a highly known school Mohammed Bil Al Qasem the UAE Dubai to be precise from and that's where my desire to be in childcare kicked in fully. I assisted the teachers in prepping for lessons and also helped to organize the children for recreational indoor and outdoor activities: we sang, danced, played games, role played, drew, painted, and narrated stories. We also visited the public library, the local animal park and went out on picnics .
Informally I have helped my brother to raise my nephew Jason 10yrs old as well as raising my own wonderful daughter Joy bless her since birth. Although my looking after them is now restricted to my yearly vacations, as a mom and auntie I have never stopped caring. And as such I can comfortably say that I sincerely enjoy spending time with children.
When it comes to leisure, I take pleasure in the simple things in life. I enjoy being outdoors, being with my friends, going to the beach, going for walks, visiting places like malls, cinemas, animal orphanage and such fun filled places.I also enjoy indoor games and activities on dull or rainy days.
As far as preferences are concerned, I am looking for a live-in arrangement with a host family, that would be happy to have me stay with and work for them for at least 1year .I would also prefer looking after children aged between 1 year to 14 years. I do not mind working for a family with pets although I have exemptions of dogs for personal reasons. I have some driving skills through being self taught by a family friend but I am yet to get a driving license however I would like a host family that would allow me to finish up my driving lessons during my free working hours. Lastly, although I am quite flexible, I would prefer to have working hours that would allow me to attend day time Childcare lessons as well as driving lessons to polish up my driving skills.
I would be happy to have the opportunity to speak with you: to answer whatever questions you may have about me or my childcare experiences; to learn more about your family; your interests and to know more about what you expect from the au pair arrangement.
Thank you very much for your interest in my application! I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours Sincerely,
Grace Xx
