Nanny Agencies

Nanny agencies tend to have a much smaller choice than a very large site like New Au Pair. Nevertheless these agencies can help by providing other nanny services once you have found a nanny that you like. Some countries require you to use a nanny agency.

Many host families seeking qualified child-carers prefer to use the vast choice on New Au Pair to find a nanny that they like. Then they then pass the candidate’s details on to a nanny agency to run all the checks.

What is a nanny?

The difference between nannies and au pairs: nannies are usually qualified childcare professionals. Childcare is their profession, or they have at least two years of experience caring for children. Nannies and au pairs are often classed within the same childcare category but they are different. Au pairs should not be seen as a substitute for a nanny. An au pair usually have no formal childcare training. A nanny may be seeking a live-out or a live-in position. Au pairs will generally live with the family.

Qualifications will increase a nanny’s theoretical knowledge, but experience and common sense are very important aspects for their job. An au pair’s past childcare experiences can be just as good as a nanny’s qualification. New Au Pair helps guide families by asking candidates to put information on their profile about their qualifications and experience.

What can a nanny agency do for you?

Nanny agencies can provide services in respect of the formalities involved in hiring a nanny and checking nannies’ qualifications. Most agencies also offer additional services. These services can include background or reference checks; support and advice on Nanny Insurance, First Aid Courses and Language Courses and draw up nannies contracts.

Established agencies carry out relevant checks on nannies and families to ensure that you enter into a professional working relationship. A nanny agency will process a complete application for both parties. This can include an application form, an essay to describe the person, references, other checks, and a medical report.

A nanny agency knows the difference between an au pair and a nanny and the importance of the qualifications that are required to become a nanny. Qualifications in first aid and childcare naturally vary from country to country. A reputable nanny agency will be able to advise you on this.

USA au pair/nanny agency requirements

Whilst a very large number of American families use this site because of its enormous choice of candidates, the US does require to use one of the US Government’s designated au pair agencies for all the formalities. For details, see the Visa Requirements for the US page.

Most countries do not require you to use a nanny agency. But in some countries host families and nannies have to use an official agency. This agency can generally provide host families with all the information they need about hiring a nanny (particularly in the USA). They help families with the required background checks and medical checks.

Some countries require the formal hiring and visa services to be conducted by a nanny agency. The US in particular does mandate the use of an designated agency.
