Dear Future Family,
Hello! My name is Elianna, and I am delighted towards the prospect of becoming an au pair in France. I am 18 years old, and currently studying towards my undergraduate at Queen's University in Canada. While I was born in Canada, I have had a multi-cultural upbringing, living in both Athens and Dubai for numerous years. I am fluent in both English and Greek, with a solid foundation of Arabic and French. I have lived in various countries and went to an international school which lead me to develop both an open-minded personality as well as a love for travelling. I have travelled to various regions in Europe, North America and South-East Asia. As well as travelling, I have participated in volunteer expeditions in both Nepal and Mongolia.
My mother is a kindergarten teacher and my father is a civil engineer. While I get my aptitude for science from my father, I get my love and understanding of children from my mother. I have an older brother who is currently completing his degree in Psychology.
When it comes to child care experience, I have looked after children in both formal and informal contexts. Having a large extended family, my experience with children started at a young age through babysitting. This babysitting later extended to taking care of family friends' children and even prompted me to set up and manage an afterschool day care for the children of teachers at my school.
My hobbies include various sports such as horse riding, football, volleyball and track and field. I have competed both at the domestic and international level. I not only enjoy playing sports but I have immense experience with coaching sports. Under ECC Affiliation, I taught beginners and intermediate horse riding classes from youth aged 4-12 as well as teenagers from 13-18. I have also been an assisted coach for a volleyball junior varsity team as well as multiple children's football teams and a coach for shot put and discus.
I have a strong passion for animals, owning a cat, a dog and a bunny, with future aspirations to be a veterinarian. I love to read books of all different genres and frequently read stories to my younger cousins.
There are a variety of reasons regarding my aspirations to become an au pair abroad and take care of children. Being from a bilingual country of both English and French, I would like to strengthen my French oral skills, as improving these would be valuable in both my future employment opportunities and social interactions. I have studied French in both high school and university, however, I am aware that learning a language within a classroom context is by itself, incomplete. Therefore, I believe that immersing myself in French culture would not only be beneficial but provide me with an appreciation of the language and its rich culture. I am also interested in a job relating to child care due to both my experience and immense passion for children.
As far as preferences are concerned, I am looking for a live-in arrangement with a host family, that would be happy to have me stay with and work for them for the months of May, June and July. I would also prefer looking after children aged between 3 years to 14 years of age.
