We are a fun, relaxed family with a happy baby and a cat, looking for an au pair to start in September. We live 25 minutes from London on the train, 10 minutes walk from the local town centre and have a lovely house and garden.
Hi. Meet Joey. He'll be one in September, which is about when we ned our new au pair, and he's a happy baby. We are a relaxed family that live in Reading, which is a large town close to London and the South. It has a large railway station with links all over the country and local there are plenty of opportunities for everything from music to culture to nightlife. Our house is large but your room is small - but we have plenty of room for you to live, study, relax and be yourself. We have a grand piano, a hot tub and a little garden and we are close to the town and the station. Mum is a jockey and a journalist and Dad is a conductor working in musicals and a singing teacher at home (be prepared for some bad singing...) so there is an opportunity for horse riding or piano/singing lessons if you wish. We like a glass of wine and enjoy the company of friends and we eat home cooked food, no ready meals. Our little family and home is pretty cool and relaxed and we think you'd enjoy coming to live and work with us. We want you to enjoy your time here and will do our best to make it fun and interesting and to give you the time and space to enjoy our country and our culture.
Your job:
You would be expected to look after Joey mostly when we are both working, so usually varied hours between Monday - Friday, and sometimes if we want a night off together. We don't have a specific routine, so it could be five hours one day and none the next - it changes each week - but we never ask for more than 28 hours a week without extra payment. So far our au pair has never done more than 25 hours, which includes a couple of hours light housework. Also, you'll always have at least one free day each week, usually two and occasionally three. Being our au pair is definitely like being part of the family - we will trust you and hope that you will be yourself and enjoy the experience with us.
