Hi!! We need an au pair as we are a busy family, 2 school age children & 2 small dogs. Our au pair must be flexible as due to parents shift working. Help us with childcare so we have more time for fun and the beach!
Hello!!
Here is a bit more about us, our lifestyle and what we are looking for in an au pair...
We are an English family, we have been in Australia for 2 years. My husband, Simon, is in the Navy, which means I am a part time single mom! I am a Registered Nurse & i work shifts.... you see my need for an au pair! It is ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL that we have an au pair who can drive.
When Simon is not at sea, he leaves for work around 6am and gets home around 6pm. So when he is here, he will take care of the kids (90% of the time) after 630pm.
WEEKDAYS!
I currently work 0915 -1215 Mon -Thurs. I take the children to school in the morning and from there i carry on to work. (I would ask that you spend an hour or so in the morning walking the dogs and doing a bit of tidying up)
My 'second' job is at the local hospital, I work between 3 & 5 shifts per week, most of which are from 230pm - 10pm. So, on weekdays I would need you 2 - 4 afternoons from 245 - 1015 (if Simon is not home). This would involve picking the kids up from school at 315, taking them to their swimming/ karate/music lessons (depending on what day it is!!) getting them a simple evening meal, making sure they shower and get their things ready for the next day & getting them to bed by 815pm. I would also ask you to make them a packed lunch for school the next day!
Occasionally i work 7am- 230pm on Fridays, when i would ask you to do the morning school run (I will collect them after school).
WEEKENDS...
I sometimes work at the weekends, the shifts are either 7am - 230pm or 230pm - 10pm. If Simon is home, he'll have the kids & you get the weekend off; but i need to know if you are willing to work a maximum of 2 weekends per month (negotiable!) if he is away....
I encourage my children to think and do for themselves, I am not their slave and would not expect you to be either!! They do a lot for themselves but sometimes need reminders!!
I would ask that you do some light household chores & fetch the groceries sometimes. I do not see an au pair as a cleaner, i would ask that you just join in with the tidying up.
I will do the really boring stuff like window cleaning, scrubbing the yard and cleaning up the dog poop!
We have 2 cavoodles, Buddy & Teddy (x between king charles cavalier & poodle). I would ask you to walk them for around half an hr each day where possible & remind the kids to feed them when I'm at work.
You will be treated as part of our family; if we go out for the day you'd be welcome to join us if you wanted to. If you want to eat meals with us that's perfectly fine (I've heard of families who do not let their nanny/au pair eat with the family, I totally disagree with this).
Simon and I would probably ask you to babysit once every few weeks so we can go out....
We have 2 cars so we can negotiate use of one for your personal use. However, train/ferry/bus services are good around this area.
We live on an estate for army/navy personnel, i know there are at least 2 other families very close by with au pairs, thought this might be of interest to you for socialising!!
Your room is separate to the actual house (just across the tiny backyard) The room is big, with a queen bed, tv, small sofa and ensuite. The garage is below the room and has a fridge in which you can use.
We would negotiate about guests if necessary, i appreciate you are not a child and would not treat you as such, just ask that you put the children first! I also appreciate you have a life outside of being our au pair!
So your hours of work would generally be between 25 - 40 per week, as you can see there is no set daily routine as such, mainly being a taxi for the children & taking some of the pressure off me! Flexibility is essential!! Salary in the region of $220 per week.
If you are unhappy with something i would hope you felt able to discuss it with me so we can resolve it and all be happy...
Ben (the 11 year old) has epilepsy. This was diagnosed June 2014 and he has been medically managed and seizure free since September 2014. He takes tablets twice a day which he does himself, he just has to be reminded!!
My children are outgoing, confident and sporty. They bicker/ argue like most siblings which is an endless battle to stop!! They have their moments of being too cheeky and sometimes push their boundaries. I have told them any au pair must be listened to and treated with the same respect they show any other adult.
So, Ben loves playing soccer, he plays the drums, has swimming lessons and does jujitsu 3 times per week. He got voted for school captain this year and is very proud of it. Lucy is a tomboy and does the same sport as ben but plays guitar.
So, that's us. We are looking for someone from around mid july for a 6 month (minimum) stay. If we sound like your type of family, please contact me.
Thank you
Rachel
