We are a friendly and fun Christian family living in beautiful Sydney who are looking for an au pair to help care for our 3 year old boy and 5 year old girl from February 2017 onwards. Most weekends will be free and you are welcome to join us on trips to the country when we visit family in the Hunter Valley. We live in a big house and you will have your own space. We are a short walk to the trains that head directly to the city.
We have had au pairs living with our family on and off over the last couple of years. We love the variety that they bring and the special ways that they enrich our lives, ways that are often unexpected and very dear to us. We feel fortunate to now have members of our “family” scattered around the world!
Our daughter Kathy is 5 and has just completed her first year of school. She attends locally and is rapidly learning how to read and write. The house is scattered with little notes to the people she loves!! She also loves swimming and would prefer to live the summer afternoons underwater in the pool. Fortunately, she is now a competent swimmer and we don't have to jump in the pool every time she wants to swim. She is also learning tennis with her cousins nearby and is keen to start playing the piano in the new year. She is learning about the challenges of friendship in the school playground but she is quietly confident and very happy at school.
Archie is 3 and very engaged with his world. He is good company and talks at full volume from waking time until he crashes for sleep at night. He is passionate about trains but is also happy pushing a pram full of soft animals, trying to kick a soccer ball or racing up and down the driveway on his bike or scooter. He is quite affectionate, often asking for “mummy-cuddles”. Often I come from work and he is curled up on the couch with the au pair, reading the latest books they have borrowed from the library. He is very excited about starting preschool 2 days a week in February and we think he will transition easily as he is a very self-content and relaxed child.
Lachlan is working in the city, travelling in by train. We all have breakfast together and he is home well before the kids go to sleep at night. Elke is working part time as a doctor and her hours vary from week to week but generally she works about 4 days a week. We are looking for someone to start in early February so you can overlap with our current au pair, Olivia.
We encourage creative playtime with art and crafts and lots of outside activities including at local parks or in our big back garden. Archie also goes to a great music play group nearby. Besides helping to care for the children, we need someone who can drive to assist with some school drop offs or pick-ups or taking Archie to local daytime activities. We need some help with cooking and laundry too. The weekends will mostly be free although some evenings we will need you to watch the children while we attend work functions or go out for a precious evening together. We are active Christians and attend church around the corner each week. We think it is important that our children know what it is to be kind, thoughtful and loving and we seek to witness that sort of behaviour in our home.
We live in a large house in the northern suburbs of Sydney. We have a big garden and a large pool. You would have your own sunny and spacious bedroom with private entry and would not need to share a bathroom with the rest of the family. The house is an easy walk to the train station from which you can access Chatswood (10 minutes away, a large business and shopping precinct), the city (40 minutes away) and much of the greater Sydney area. It is a safe and wealthy part of Sydney and there are plenty of au pairs in the surrounding area for you to meet and spend time with. We are a busy family who love to entertain family and friends at home and so there are often people visiting us.
We are keen to encourage you to make the most of your time in our lovely city and to help you with travel plans to see some of this gorgeous country - we have both travelled widely throughout Australia. We have had several previous au pairs and they would also be happy to share their experiences if you'd like to email or speak to them.
