Introduction of the family offering the au pair / nanny job:
SAFETY WARNING: if you see any contact details below, DO NOT CONTACT THIS FAMILY but report it to us! It might be a scammer who will ask you for money.
Some basic information about us: Olivier and I (Martine) work both in Geneva (Switzerland). Olivier is a cook. He works for a catering company and I work for the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) as project manager.
Lola will turn 9 at the end of July and Luca 7 beginning of December.
Lola will turn 9 at the end of July. She will start her third year of primary school (CM1) and really loves it. She also attends the English National Programme/ENP and has homework both in French and in English. Some tutoring is needed in English, the French side is taken care of, by me.
She is very much into Arts & Crafts, pottery, etc. She spends a lot of time drawing, crafting, etc. at home and goes to Arts & Crafts classes every Wednesdays.
Luca will turn 7 at the end of this year and will start his second year of primary school in September (CE1). He also attends the English National Programme and needs some tutoring regarding his English homework as well. Luca will start hip-hop classes in September and goes to music school on Wednesday afternoons. He enjoys biking, scooting, playing football, running around, etc.
As a family, we go skiing during winter, to the swimming-pool during summer, we also love biking, going to the park, for walks in the mountains, picnics by the Leman Lake, etc.
We speak both French and English at home. Olivier speaks French with the kids and I speak English with them, but French with our au pair.
We live in Divonne-les-Bains (around 10.000 inhabitants), on the border of Switzerland. It is a lovely French city. Not only is it a 15 minutes' drive from Geneva but close by to many lively towns on both sides of the border (Nyon, Lausanne, Evian, Annecy….).
There is plenty to do in this town. There are many bakeries, cafes and a few bars that get quite lively at the end of the week! There is also a pub; “Charly's” which is very popular with au pairs!
Divonne is a very family orientated town which makes it very easy when you are looking after children. There is a lake which is nice to scoot/cycle around or to swim in during summer time, plenty of parks and a big outdoor swimming pool – all is walking distance from each other. Divonne is also the perfect place to become an au pair because of the amount of au pairs that live there! Our au pairs have met a lot of people from living in Divonne. It definitely has one of the biggest au pair community in the area. There is always plenty of things to do with the kids every day after school and during school holidays, and because there are so many au pairs here they all meet up with the children so they can play together which is nice too!
Although cold in the winter, it is great for skiing and snowboarding with Mount Jura, a bus ride away, and bigger skiing resorts like Les Carroz, La Clusaz, Verbier, Chamonix are nice and close. Mont-Blanc can be seen from Divonne Lake on a nice day too.
Other, livelier towns for the week-end are Nyon and Geneva, both in Switzerland. They have plenty of restaurants, bars, clubs and pubs and are easy to get to on public transport from Divonne. Geneva also has a night bus service at the weekends which is great! Both towns are very international.
Divonne is easy to get to Geneva, which has a train station that can take you to big cities such as Venice, Milan, Paris, etc. The bus service can take you to other nice towns nearby, such as Annecy and Montreux. Zurich is great too, especially in December where there is a huge Christmas Market. It is also really cheap to go to Spain and Germany from Geneva airport. Travelling is definitely easily done here. Being a small country, you could definitely see all of Switzerland in your year here!
As already said, we would like our future au pair to start end of August for a year (until end of July 2017) and would expect her to take care of our two children during the week. We leave our au pairs a lot of space to organise internal/external activities and expect this person to really be in charge (trust is of course, a really important part of the deal).
We are not at home during the day and are not always on holidays when the kids are (unfortunately!).
The school weekly schedules are as follows:
Organise breakfast, get them ready and take them to school for 08:30, pick them up for lunch (11:30), bring them back to school (13:30), pick them up at the end of the day (16:30) and take care of them (play, draw, go to the park, swimming-pool, go to friends, etc.) until around 19:00, depending on the days and their weekly activities. School is 2 minutes' walk from home.
During your spare time, you will go to French classes twice a week and will also have the opportunity to join the other au pairs for coffee or a walk around the lake, etc.
We will also ask you for a bit of housework and a baby-sitting once a month, otherwise evenings (from 7:00 pm) and week-ends are free.
We put a bedroom and a bathroom at your disposal and offer 500€/month.
I hope that you will soon join our family and am looking forward to read from you!!
Do not hesitate to contact me if you have questions, I'll gladly answer them.
Martine
