We're looking for our next experienced live-in Nanny/Au Pair for approximately 6 months to help with our young family - 2 kids (2 year old and 4 years old), non smoker essential.
We are a loving, friendly & happy family who have 2 very bright young children. My husband works in IT, I work as an International Student Adviser at a University.
We need help looking after & playing with our children when they are not in daycare plus some help doing daily child-related chores / housework for approx 40 hours each week.
We are experienced au pair hosts & would like to welcome another au pair into our home to be respected & cared for as a member of our family. Some of our past Au Pairs have become like family to us & we continue to maintain contact & miss them greatly since they've left.
We live in a house in Sydney in the quiet suburb of Matraville, within very close walking distance to a supermarket, cafes & park, as well as busses close by which go to the nearby beaches, shopping centres, gyms, swimming pools/aquatic centre, & to the city centre. We are approximately 3 km from the national parkland at La Perouse, & approx 3-4 km from 5 different beautiful beaches – all yours to explore & enjoy. We also live within 10 mins walking distance to our children's daycare, so drivers licence is not actually required. Our current au pair loves the fact that Sydney is easy to travel around, fun to live in, & has plenty to do & experience.
The benefits of living with us:
* A caring, warm family environment
* The chance to practice English if you are not fluent (both parents are well educated & have a high level of academic & conversational English)
* Bus stop to the city & all amenities 3 minutes away
* Unlimited high speed wifi internet access
* Au pair has their own private bedroom in the house
* Modern bathroom (shared with children)
* A huge network of au pairs in surrounding suburbs as well as throughout Sydney, with many social activities & sites to see
* Our Au pair always has the option to join us (or opt out) for any family type activities we plan (restaurants, parks)
Our ideal au pair would be the following:
* Someone with a desire to be part of the family when on & off duty, but also happy to make friends & go out independently when off duty
* Strong desire to learn & speak English (if not already fluent) with the family
* Non smoker
* Neat & tidy, & a desire to help keep the house neat & tidy
* Happy doing light housework as required
* Have some cooking abilities, we'll also show you how to make the foods the kids like
* Enjoy being active with the kids (bike rides, football, T-ball, walks, trampoline, visiting the park)
* Enjoy doing arts & crafts, making pillow fortresses as well as telling stories & playing make-believe with the children (as we do not believe in using TV, ipad or video games as a babysitting tool)
* Responsible enough to manage 2 active kids doing 2 different things at the same time (probably trying to break rules as well)
* Assertive & confident enough to step in & calmly challenge poor behaviour when required
* Creative enough to find interesting diversions for a 4 & 2 year old who often want what the other one has
* Good initiative & ability to make sensible decisions on the go
* Flexibility – while working hours will remain fairly similar, tasks may vary from time to time
About us:
The kids are loving & enjoy hugs with our au pair, although my daughter always takes a bit of time to get comfortable with our au pairs when they first start. They are both highly intelligent & need a variety of interesting activities to keep their minds & bodies occupied.
We love hosting au pairs & including them as a family member. We are looking for an au pair who would genuinely like to be a part of our family.
Expectations:
We expect our au pair to be trustworthy, energetic, warm & responsible at all times while on duty.
We would also like you to be able to manage any challenging behaviour from the kids in a mature manner, using the 123 Magic program (which we are happy to teach as it works well).
We need someone independent who is happy to spend time doing educational & fun activities with the kids. They have a set routine that we all follow with them (as it works brilliantly for them :-))
Most days we need help in the mornings & afternoons & generally only need one full day a week, & even then I'm around a bit to help with the kids. However, if the kids are unwell & not going to daycare, we'd need help looking after them, so on those days we generally ask for extra help/hours & then we just arrange more time off over the next few weeks etc...
We offer full use of our home & snacks & meals & pocket money is provided. We also pay a completion bonus at the end of the agreed 6 month contract period (if our Au Pair stays the initially agreed upon time).
Here's a basic rundown of what our wonderful au pairs help us with:
Get kids dressed & ready in morning, pick up kids from daycare a few times each week, prepare & feed kids their meals, give them reflux medication (they are happy to take this) & generally help us with anything relating to kids such as laundry, cleaning up after kids as well as the fun stuff like playing with & doing arts & crafts with them, taking them to & supervising them at the park or other activities. In the evenings you may be asked to help with bathing & bedtime routines as well as cleaning up after kids. Once a week we ask our au pairs to wipe down /dust all the kids' stuff & change their bedsheets (usually while kids are busy doing something else as its much quicker & easier that way).
We look forward to hearing from you if this sounds like the right family & job for you.
I note that like most Australian families, we don't pay for any Au Au Pair's flights to/from Australia.
