Single mum with busy shop / Post Office attached in VERY remote Orkney island location - island has just over 600 inhabitants. Happy, practical and warm-hearted person needed to look after children on weekdays after school and sometimes on Saturdays, driving an absolute MUST. I will give lots of help with learning English or German. Local spinning, knitting, sewing, sailing, football, rugby and other groups, and plenty of volunteer opportunities. Only basic accommodation in our very old cottage by the sea: Own room with own toilet/basin, but it's in need of some work and NOT luxury! Wild weather but also wonderful beaches, Northern Lights, seals, wildlife, etc.

I need someone reliable who will cook and play with the kids after school, who can deal with frequent cold wet weather, and who enjoys being part of the family and small community. I am happy to give training with all tasks if needed. I will consider a couple, or a parent with child/children. Our daily routines centre around the shop opening hours, the kids being driven to and from the village, shop deliveries, school times and holidays. The spare room for the nanny is next to the living room, and we will ensure that the kids respect private time and space. There is one hotel/restaurant on the island, and one pub, so this is not a party island, but there are opportunities to meet people at community, church or charity events, and the island has a small swimming pool and sports centre. This would suit someone with a love for wild nature and peace, and an interest in island life and heritage, perhaps crafts like spinning, knitting or beading. The kids are active and chatty even when they're on their computers and demand a lot of attention, and hundreds of people frequent the shop. I will be happy to pay some pocket money, and also for extra babysitting hours. I will need some flexibility when the kids are sick or on holidays, and I'm looking for someone who can stay at least 1 year.
