Au pair needed by a fun loving family with 2.5 year old twin girls. We need an extra set of hands to help keep our household running smoothly and to help out with our twins while we juggle our busy schedules!!
Hi there! We are a couple in our 30's who have twin girls aged 2.5. They're totally adorable, cheeky and energetic, and they're rapidly turning into beautiful little ladies :) (don't get me wrong, they can be a handful too!)
Our time is coming to an end with our current au pair (our second), therefore we're on the hunt for our next au pair, who we're looking forward to meeting and welcoming into our home :)
I have a full time job managing a fitness studio where I do split shifts; some early mornings and some late evenings with the middle of the day generally working from home. I also run Zumba classes a couple of nights a week.
My husband works in the construction industry in Melbourne city (office based), and is also a qualified Personal Trainer.
Our week is pretty full on with work commitments (Monday to Friday), however on the weekend we try to have lots of fun family time. We'll often do something active/outdoorsy during the day, and once the girls go to bed (if we're not attending or hosting any social gatherings), we love nothing more than to enjoy a quiet night in with a glass of wine - we cherish our downtime!
We would love an au pair who would suit our lifestyle; someone who enjoys being busy and active, yet enjoys a quiet night in too :) (of course you're welcome to go out socialising on your own & with friends you meet here; we don't expect you to hang out with us 24/7!)
We live on an a large property in the south eastern side of Melbourne (Victoria), about a 45 minute drive from Melbourne (city). We have a pool & lots of space for doing "stuff"!
We are flexible with dates, although we ideally need someone who is available to start in May (or sooner if you're available), however we're more interested in finding the right fit for our family, so we're happy to wait for the right person.
We would like someone who is willing, able and confident to drive on their own with toddlers in the car (we drive on the left hand side of the road in Australia!). The girls can go a little stir crazy if they're cooped up inside the house all day, every day, so it would be great to have an au pair who would be confident to drive them to the library for story time, to local parks or playgroups etc. You will also have access to one of our cars during your time off for personal use.
When we envisage our perfect au pair, Mary Poppins springs to mind! Someone who is a good balance between being strong and able to instill discipline, yet also energetic, fun and engaging. We would like our girls to be well behaved & well mannered, so we need someone who won't be walked all over by 2 year olds (because they can try!). We'd like someone who is willing to help educate them, which can be everything from making sure they say please and thank you, to playing games with them that involve colours and numbers.
Our au pair definitely needs to have patience! They are 2.5 year olds so their attention spans aren't very long, which can at times be frustrating! Hence the need to be patient, and you'll need to be willing to put some effort into coming up with ways to entertain them. Fairly often they're happy to play by themselves, however sometimes they do need some third party stimulation, where things like reading a book, dancing, drawing, singing, doing crafts etc are lots of fun.
We basically need a "household manager"; someone who is happy (and willing & able) to become the third parent in our family. We would see you as an equal; we certainly do not need a third child (translation: if your parents accuse you of being a moody teenager who spends hours staring at their phone/on social media/hiding in their bedroom, who never helps with household chores and who needs to be "nagged" to do anything, please don't apply :) ).
We are by no means after a slave (we would never expect you to do anything we wouldn't or don't do ourselves), but someone who is willing do all the things WE do, which would include things like: cooking, cleaning, washing dishes/clothes, grocery shopping, bathing the girls, helping with toilet training (they're almost nappy free!), putting them to bed, waking them up, preparing meals for them, tidying up after them (or moreso teaching & encouraging them to tidy up after themselves!), playing with them, taking them to parks/for walks/to playgroups, reading/colouring with them etc.
We'd like somebody who wants to be an active part of our family, with the fun stuff as well as the boring stuff, not someone whose idea of looking after children is to plonk them in front of a TV and have one eye on the children and one eye on their phone.
So ideally someone who is proactive (very high on our wish list!), willing to take on any & all of the responsibilities of being a parent, as well as being a general household member who helps keeps the place neat & tidy. We will discuss hours etc once we find the right au pair, however generally speaking your "work hours" would be during the week, with weekends off (where we'd be happy for you to join us for family activities or for you to go out exploring & traveling). We'd like you to be a part of the fun in our lives too (which there is lots of!), not just the mundane stuff :)
If we sound like your kind of family & you'd be keen to live with us & our beautiful girls & be able to explore Melbourne, we'd love to hear from you :)
