Dear future host family, my name is Kayla Jacobs and i am with Au Pair international on a extension for 12 months form 30th of Jan 2022, currently in Alabama Montgomery
Dear future host family,
Im so excited to continue to participate in this amazing cultural exchange experience. I would love for you to get to know me well enough so you can be sure that I'll try to take the best care of your children I can.
My name is Kayla Jacobs I am 20 years old and I'm from South Africa. I grew up in my parents' farm so I grew up loving the outdoors and riding horses, but also moved to the city when I was 16 with the name Port Elizabeth. I love being active and throughout my life I got involved in dancing, triathlons, yoga, horse riding competitions, Iron Man triathlon, etc. I've become a certified instructor in yoga and dancing. I believe that exercise and an active life is the key to physical and mental well-being, and that it should start at an early age.
I love making new friends and I'm very outgoing. I'm a caring person who loves showing affection and encouraging other people to live their best life. I'm an empath and I'm a sensitive person, and I feel that that has helped me with kids. I love playing guitar and piano, baking , nature and I am always up for an adventure. I have I will describe myself as an open, friendly, organized loyal, fun, loving , and faithful person. A sense of responsibility is very important to me. I also do laugh a lot! The word Family means a lot to me, and I can't wait to be part of your family that would be my family far away from home!
My values and spiritual growth plays a big role in my life and in me as a person. I grew up in a Christian home with Christian values and I continue to practice my religion, I'm open to be placed with a family from different cultural and religious backgrounds. I believe respect towards others and their beliefs is something everybody should practice.
As regards experience, back home in South Africa I used to be a teacher and that taught kindergarten and after that I gave dance classes at a studio, I had around 7 classes per day going from tap, modern, hip hop and ballet. I also ran the children and worship Ministry in our church.
During my first year in the USA I worked with a family with many kids. My host parents have 11 biological and adopted kids (ages 2-23). Besides that, my host family fosters kids so I took upon the responsibility of caring for those children too. As of this moment, I have 9 kids under my care (ages 2, 3, 6, 7, 9, 11, 11, 13 and 15). Even though some of them are older and more independent, I still needed to make sure they would have their homework done and that they would eat at appropriate times. I almost never had them at the same time, but I've done it a few times. Some of them have special needs. One of them has autism, adhd and Down syndrome, another one has autism and adhd, another one has dwarfism, developmental delays and struggle hearing, another one has adhd and was born with fetal alcohol syndrome. Even though I wouldn't disclose all this information with names in order to maintain a sense of privacy towards medical records, I believe it's important to recognize the work I have put into helping the kids in my care. My experience hasn't been an easy one at all but it has been a rewarding one for sure. I'm glad I have helped kids by providing a safe place to grow up in.
It is sad to be leaving the kids I've cared for with so much love, but I know I have more experiences awaiting for me. I have chosen to continue the program for a second year because one of my main goals is to travel around the country and see places I might not have the chance to see again. I loved Alabama and Florida but I believe there's a lot more I haven't seen yet.
I love being on the go and enjoying my free time, that is why having access to a car is a must for me.
I hope to make a positive impact on your children and I will love them with all my heart. Thank you, for your time!
Blessings and love
