Au Pair from Dominican Republic, called Tamara, 21, looking for a job with a nice and loving family, starting Oct 2020!
My name's Tamara and I currently live in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. I'm in my senior year of university and would like to be able to have this experience before going to do my master's. I believe I can maintain a safe environment for your children while providing fun, imaginative and educational activities for them.
I would be happy to have the opportunity to speak with you to answer any questions you may have about myself or my childcare experiences and to learn more about your family, your interests and to know more about what you expect from the Au Pair arrangement.
Thank you very much for your interest in my application! I look forward to hearing from you.
My personality
What can I tell you about me? I'm a very creative person, an outgoing, and funny person! I like drawing, painting, doing DIY projects, basically just about anything that gets my creativity going. Also, I'm an eager reader and a philosophy lover.
My family and friends
I come from a very traditional, diverse and loving family. My father is a loving doctor and my mother is a stay-at-home mom. I have two big sisters, one of them lives in Austria with my beautiful nephew, Alexandre (4), and the other one recently moved to Texas, USA. I also have two dogs, Bruno Mars & Salvador Dali.
My father comes from a very small town near Haiti called Santiago Rodriguez which is famous for agricultural and eco-tourism. My mother comes from La Capital, as we like to call Santo Domingo and she's from German descent which makes me half-german! I would also like to state I have a german passport which makes the process of Au Pairing in Germany easier and also travelling in case that's a concern for you!
Not long ago, I moved in into my grandmother's house in order for me to help take care of her. She's a 93-year-old Dominican grandma who is full of love and sassiness!
Regarding my friends, they're awesome people! I pride myself with being friends with people of all backgrounds and I can humbly say that I have the best friends in the world. I spend a lot of time with my friends and I put a lot of trust, dedication and time to my friendships. I strongly believe friends are the family you choose - so might as well choose the best!
My education
At the moment, I'm attending a university in my home country and will be hopefully receiving my Interior Design diploma this upcoming October 2020! I've been involved in numerous extracurricular activities, events, and courses outside of my university and I consider myself to be a person very driven to my academics. In fact, I have plans in the future to continue my studies both in the Design field, as well as the Environmental field!
I've had several jobs since I started university, right now I'm currently working as an assistant coach for kid's soccer classes.
My experience with kids
Regarding my experience with children, I've been working with kids every summer since I was 16 since I used to volunteer at an organization that specializes in providing summer camps for kids who come from low-income families. The children ranged in age from 3 to 13 years. Also, I used to give art lessons at a local park!
At the moment, I'm working at an international company (which I'll reserve the name for now but if you're interested I can disclose it to you in private) that provides soccer classes for small kids. Right now, I'm an assistant coach for two classes for kids that range from 3 to 5-year-olds twice a week!
Finally, I'd like to point out that I've been surrounded by kids my whole life, both family and non-family members. I strongly believe that working with kids is a job of passion, you cannot pretend to care for a child if you're not passionate about it because there's so much patience, love, and discipline that goes into caring for a child that it is impossible for you to do it if you don't have that dedication.
My language skills
My mother tongue is Spanish and I've been living my whole life in a Spanish-speaking country. Apart from my mother tongue, I'm fluent in English which I learned back in school. Since the sweet age of 4, I was enrolled in an international school that was bilingual therefore, I've been exposed to English my whole life. Also, I recently started taking German lessons at the German embassy. I wouldn't consider myself anything near fluent in German right now (haha sorry!) but hopefully, by the time I become part of your family, I'll know how to say a joke or two in German :)
My motivation
In about 10 months, I will be finishing my degree, but I am looking to take a break from academics and explore new cultures. I would like to have a different life experience that not only allows me to calmly reflect on my future but also involves children!
Also, part of my family comes from Germany and I would love to get to know the country my grandfather and all of his side of the family grew on as well as being able to work on my German skills.
My expectations
So far my expectations go, I would like to find a loving and caring family. I want to be part of your family but at the same time, I want to set rules and limits because I do understand it's unrealistic and unhealthy to treat this arrangement in that light.
I'm very aware of my responsibilities as an Au Pair, and I would like for me and my future family to develop a healthy relationship where we can be open about expectations, responsibilities and if applicable, feedback. I do not see this as me being your employee or me being another person in the family, I want to see this as a middle ground. I want to be able to have the support a family brings, but also, the professionalism being an employee brings to the table.
Other important information
I do have some allergic reactions, mostly to medications but I'm very careful with that since I've been struggling with that from a young age. I pretend to be bringing my antihistamines with me and I know how to take care of myself in those situations (which are not
