Hi, my name is Shami, I'm 29 and from South Africa. I am looking to join a kind and loving family and assist them in looking after their children. I hope to be able to start as soon as possible. Thank you for your time.

My name is Shamiso but everyone calls me Shami and I would really love the opportunity to work for you in taking care of your child or children while having the joy of also experiencing a new country. I was born in Germany then I grew up in Zimbabwe and have currently resided in South Africa for the past 10 years so I consider myself culturally flexible. I come from a very close tight knit family, I have one older sister and two younger sisters who I consider to be my best friends as one of my values is that family is very important. I have lived away from my family before when I went away for university and I was able to cope because in this day and age with technology it is easy to communicate even when miles apart.

I am a gentle, funny and friendly soul who loves meeting new people and one of my greatest attributes is my humility and how I always like to remain teachable. I am always willing to learn new things and I work hard and always make sure I do what is expected of me in a responsible and trustworthy manner. The families I have previously worked for have described me as accountable and reliable, I make sure I stick to the commitments I make and that I always practice good communication.

I have 2 degrees, one in business management and another one in social sciences and a diploma in counselling. My ultimate goal is to be a psychologist thus I will be studying a Masters in Philosophy of Mind and Psychology in 2022. It was when I started studying counselling and took on my first job as an au pair that I discovered just how much I enjpyed spending time with children.I am a kind, gentle, warm, humble and caring person. I enjoy going on hikes, going to the movies, going to the arcade, adventure golf, reading books especially poetry books and I have a passion for volunteer work. My hopes and desires lie within the helping profession. I want to finish my psychology studies and become a clinical psychologist so that I can work with children as well as other people in terms of mental health. I feel strongly that in Africa in particular, the lack of understanding and cognizance of mental health issues is a huge problem and my hope is to create a space for Africans to freely speak on the discourse of mental health issues.

My first childcare experience was with 3 children aged 5, 7 and 11. I cared for them for 7 months until I moved on to another family that was more fitting and I was with them for 4 years. I looked after the triplets, one boy and two girls from when they were 9 years old until they were 13 years of age. I believe what I enjoy most about working with children is that they have this ability to always be direct and honest and that's one thing I used to struggle with and I learnt how to be more direct and honest from spending time with them.

My duties included fetching the kids from school everyday, preparing lunch for them, doing homework with them and dropping and fetching them from their extra mural activities. I would also assist in arranging play dates with their friends and dropping and fetching them from their friends houses. I can honestly say I had so much fun with the triplets, there were always jokes flying around and banter. They would trust me enough to come to me about anything.

My most recent Au Pair job from 2020-2021 was with a family where I looked after two boys aged 7 and 11. The best part for me is when the kids have free time and we will play board games, hide and seek, swim in the pool or play games that they have made up, it makes me feel young again and those moments are truly something special. Spending time with children makes me feel light, young and free and also knowing that I am entrusted to help nurture and grow children in a loving and safe space gives me hope that I am playing my part in making this world a better place.

Having said all that I believe that you should choose me because at my core I am driven by love, I will show not just your children love but every act I do will be coming from a place of love and respect for your whole family. I know what a delicate and important decision making process it is entrusting someone to join in on taking care of your children and I believe if you give me a chance this could be the start of an incredible journey for all of us.

Thank you so much,

Shami
