Marlen (25 / F ), Estonian, living in France, looking for Au Pair/Nanny job in Spain for 12 months, starting from 1 September 2018

My name is Marlen. I am 25 years old with Master's degree in Political Science. I have lived abroad (Turkey, France). I was born in Sweden, but I grew up in Estonia. I have half-sisters in Sweden and Finland. I have half-brothers in Sweden and Estonia. I am an aunt for niece and nephew in Sweden and my closest niece in Estonia (she is 5 years old). I am a godmother to my best friend's child, who is just 12 months old. I have lived all my life with grandparents, mother, and brother. Later with the only mother, before moving abroad. I have been visiting my father in Finland each year.

My life and work experience in youth work field, university, abroad, student union and startup world has taught me to be an open, flexible and stress tolerant person. Studies and living abroad is a proof of my adaptability and solution-orientation in difficult situations. My marketing experience from two startups, research experience from a library, leadership experience from projects and organizations, and teaching experience from camps proves my dedication to serious work tasks.

My best qualities: initiative (in every situation and context proposing my ideas-questions, taking responsibility for the group work, doubting in everything to find the closest thing to the truth), proactive (preventing and solving problems, discrimination, conflicts) and analytical (considering two sides of each topic by looking for pro- and contra-arguments, separating the effect and cause). Methods I am using in my everyday life: non-violent communication, the power of affirmation, self-persuasion, being responsible – the ability to choose a response, mirroring, empathic listening, a language of wishes and self-analysis.
I possess strong writing abilities, as demonstrated at University during my Bachelor's thesis (grade “A” on the topic of “Syrian Refugees As a Security Threat to Turkey: Arguments of the Turkish Community”) and my successful defense of the Master's thesis on Refugees in Estonian Social Media.
I have studied English as a foreign language for 15 years. I spent 7 months working with high school students and studying in Istanbul and Ankara, Turkey, as well as 8 months studying in Lille, and 11 months working with kids from 6-18 years old in Bordeaux, France; consequently, I have a good aptitude for communication skills both orally and written in English (advanced C1 level). In addition, almost all of the academically-required readings during my Bachelor's and Master's studies have been in English. I have helped international students in Tallinn University as a tutor and participated in the work of youth organizations in English. I have a good knowledge of the Finnish language (my father's native language). In addition, I am able to converse survival-level Turkish, Swedish and Russian. I have worked in basic French since November 2017 till July 2018.
Oral and written communication skills in French are between the basic level (elementary second level - A2) and lower intermediate level (B1). I have been babysitting French-speaking kids since January 2017 till now. I am well aware of my capabilities and willing to improve them by attending new language courses (following the completion of my current course), and by individual learning. I am very interested in learning Spanish and Italian.
I have excellent computer skills, particularly in the use of Microsoft Office apparatus and internet applications; I have used those programs and different internet applications (Google Drive, Trello, Slack, etc) in all of my work.
I am a disciplined self-starter, which I have been demonstrating with my start-up experiences, studies, and thesis-writing, and personal self-development activities (yoga every morning for over 2 years, gratitude journal, lots of books and training about self-development). I am also a strong team player as my experience from start-ups, Student Union Board and Student Council board has shown. Those positions acquired many occasions where we needed to motivate, inspire, control, defend, substitute and help each other.
I have a younger sister, who I used to take little care of since I was a child (4 years younger). Recent years, I have been babysitting kids from 11 months old till 9 years old in Estonia and France. I have been teaching and organizing activities for kids in summer camps age 14-18 years old in Estonia and Turkey. I am been working in schools with French kids since age 6-18 years old since November 2017 till now, mostly through non-formal education activities. So I know how to take care of infants and how to organize free time for older kids as well. I have been taking care of my niece (since her birth till now when she is 5 years old) and I am a godmother for my best friend's child, who is just 12 months old.
I am chosen to do Au Pair in Spain because I want to move to Spain or Italy permanently. I love to live in a warm country because I have come to an understanding that I cannot live in cold. Therefore I want to use my previous experience with kids to work for maximum a year as au pair and with this opportunity take time for learning the language (Spanish) I will be needing for my future professional career in my new home country. Taking care of kids is also a good practice for being the best mom in the future. And I want to contribute to my au pair family kid life, by teaching him/her English, about Estonian culture and all the good values of life that I have learned. I wish to spend amazing time with the kids and the family while learning Spanish language and culture.
After Au Pair year, I would like to find a job that corresponds to my Master's degree and interests fields, like politics, international relations, communication, startups/businesses, and information technology combined with social enterprises. I wish to have a good command of Spanish after my Au Pair experience.
